Overview

About the Project

Lolo Footwear had a loyal local customer base and a good product range. Their problem was reach. Every customer who bought a pair of shoes knew someone else who might want to, but that referral had nowhere to go online. There was no website to share, no catalog to browse, no way to place an order without calling. The goal of this project was straightforward: get the products online, make them easy to browse on a phone, and make it easy to order. No feature bloat. No complexity the owner could not manage.

Challenge

What We Were Solving

The client needed a straightforward online store without the complexity and cost of large ecommerce platforms. The goal was a minimal system that allows customers to browse products, view details, and place orders while keeping the admin workflow manageable for one person.

Most of the expected traffic was from mobile users. The site needed to load fast on mid range Android phones on mobile data. A heavy framework or unoptimised images would have made the site unusable for the core audience.

The product catalog needed to handle size variants without becoming complicated to manage. Adding a new shoe in three sizes should take the admin two minutes, not twenty.

Approach

How We Tackled It

1

We chose PHP and MySQL deliberately. The client had no server infrastructure and wanted managed hosting they could understand and control themselves. A JavaScript heavy stack would have added complexity and cost they did not need.

2

The product data model was kept flat and simple. Each product has a name, description, price, images, and a sizes field. Variants are handled as a simple array. This made the admin interface simple to build and even simpler to use.

3

Bootstrap was used for the frontend because it produces reliable, well tested responsive layouts with minimal custom CSS. The goal was a site that worked on every device without edge case layout bugs.

Solution

What We Built

We developed a fully functional ecommerce site using PHP and MySQL with a simple and maintainable product management workflow. The product catalog includes images, pricing, size options, and descriptions written for clear product communication. The admin interface was designed to be usable by someone with no technical background.

Bootstrap provides a clean and mobile first design that loads fast even on low end devices. A lightweight cart system was implemented using PHP sessions for reliability without JavaScript complexity. The order request flow was kept intentionally simple: pick a size, add to cart, place order, done.
